About MatchLocal: MatchLocal is an emerging initiative/startup dedicated to fostering the localization of humanitarian assistance, peace and development cooperation in crisis-affected settings. We believe in the power of local solutions to address complex challenges and create lasting impact in affected communities. Through innovative approaches and collaborative partnerships, we aim to empower local actors and build resilience in the face of adversity.

Opportunity: We are seeking an individual with a passion for social change and a commitment to community empowerment to join our team. As a key member of MatchLocal, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of projects aimed at localizing humanitarian and development interventions.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the MatchLocal team to develop strategies for fostering local ownership and leadership in crisis-affected settings.

  • Conduct research and analysis to identify priority areas for localization and innovative approaches to address humanitarian and development challenges.

  • Engage with local communities, organizations, and stakeholders to build partnerships and co-create solutions tailored to their needs.

  • Support the preparation and submission of funding proposals, including developing project concepts, budgets, and work plans.

  • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities to ensure the effectiveness and impact of MatchLocal initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., international development, humanitarian affairs, peace and conflict studies).

  • Demonstrated experience or interest in development cooperation, humanitarian aid, or peacekeeping, particularly in crisis-affected contexts.

  • Ideally: experience in working and networking with local organizations in crisis affected areas (e.g., Ukraine, MENA and Sahel).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and adapt to changing circumstances.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.

  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, with a commitment to learning and professional growth.

  • Excellent English language skills are an essential requirement. Further languages including Arabic, French, Ukrainian, Russian, or other local languages are a strong asset. German language skills are also an advantage.

Note: Successful applicants will join MatchLocal in a bid for the Berlin Start-up Stipendium. If successful, the candidate will work full-time for MatchLocal in Berlin financed by the scholarship starting August 2024 for an initial period of up to 12 months. Applicants have to be residents in Berlin and need to hold a valid German residence permit and permission to work. Please indicate in your application if you meet these requirements.
